Ordering Chickpeas
Chickpeas are incredibly versatile and a valuable addition to a healthy and varied diet. The chickpeas in our range are of high quality and ideal for all sorts of dishes, from curries and salads to hummus.
What are chickpeas?
The chickpea is an edible legume from the butterfly flower family and has been cultivated for over 8000 years. The popularity of chickpeas has increased significantly in recent years, and for good reason. They are rich in fiber, protein, iron, and vitamin B, making them an excellent plant-based meat substitute.
Chickpeas can be used as a vegetable, meat substitute, or a source of slow carbohydrates. Their mild, nutty flavor makes them suitable for both hot and cold dishes.
Preparation
Preparing dried chickpeas is easier than it seems. For a new harvest, soaking is not necessary, but it is recommended for an older harvest. Ideally, start the evening before use.

Rinse the chickpeas thoroughly.

Place them in a pot and add three times as much water.

Let the chickpeas soak for 8 to 12 hours at room temperature.

Use the soaking water as cooking water for extra flavor.

Cook the chickpeas for 45 to 60 minutes until tender.
For soft chickpeas, for example for hummus, cook them for 1 to 1.5 hours.
Storage
Dried chickpeas have a long shelf life. Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place. This way, they will stay good for up to a year and retain their flavor and nutritional value.
