Easily order the tastiest, top-quality dried Dutch Brown peas. Our marrowfat peas come directly from the farmer, ensuring you always get the best taste and freshness.
What are Dutch Brown Peas?
Dutch brown peas are legumes from the pea family and are closely related to garden peas. They are climbing plants that can grow up to two meters high. The beans are large, firm, and range from round to oval.
Marrowfat peas are also known by various names, such as field peas, grey peas, brown peas, and pigeon peas. Fresh marrowfat peas have a grey-green colour, while the dried variety is brown.
Preparation
The peas are easy to prepare. New harvests do not need to be soaked, but it is recommended for older beans.
-
Rinse the marrowfat peas thoroughly with cold water.
-
Place them in a pan with three times as much water as beans and let them soak for 8 to 12 hours at room temperature.
-
Drain the soaking water and boil the marrowfat peas for 60 to 75 minutes in plenty of water.
Please note: dried marrowfat peas significantly increase in weight after cooking. Five hundred grams of dried peas yield approximately 1100 to 1200 grams of cooked marrowfat peas.
Storage
Dried peas have a long shelf life. Store them in a cool, dry, and dark place, and they will keep for up to a year. This way, you always have a nutritious and flavourful ingredient on hand.
