What are organic red beans?

Organic red beans, also known as kidney beans, owe their name to their kidney-shaped appearance and deep red color. They have a firm texture, a slightly sweet taste, and a thick skin. This allows them to retain their bite even in long-cooked dishes such as stews and chili con carne.

Unlike canned beans, they contain no salt or preservatives. Seventy grams of dried beans already provide a full portion as a meat substitute.

Why organic? Grown without pesticides, richer in flavor, and better for the soil. That's why we only offer organic products.

What do you use them for?

Red beans are essential in chili con carne, but they are more versatile than you might think. They work excellently in Mexican dishes, Indian curries, bean salads, tortillas, and stews. Their firm texture means they don't get mushy, even with longer cooking times.

Preparation

For red beans from a recent harvest, pre-soaking is usually not necessary. If the beans are older, soaking is recommended for a better cooking result.

  1. Rinse the beans thoroughly with cold water
  2. Place them in a large pan and add three times the amount of water
  3. Let the beans soak for at least eight hours at room temperature
  4. Drain the soaking water and use fresh water for cooking
  5. Cook the beans for sixty to ninety minutes until tender, depending on age and size

After that, they are ready to be used in soups, stews, or other dishes.

Storage

Dried red beans have a long shelf life. Store them in a tightly sealed jar or bag in a cool, dry, and dark place. This way, they will keep for up to two years. Avoid moisture, light, and heat to maintain their quality.
