Order Green Lentils

Our green lentils are perfectly suited for use in soups, salads, and various other dishes. Thanks to their firm texture and nutty, slightly spicy flavor, they also make an excellent meat substitute.

What are green lentils?

Green lentils are round, flat seeds from a plant in the legume family. They originally come from the Middle East, but are now also very popular in Europe. Lentils are nutritious, high in protein, low in fat, and contain many B vitamins and essential minerals.

Preparation

Unlike many other legumes, green lentils do not need to be soaked. If you prefer to soak them anyway, leave them in cold water for one to two hours. Longer is not necessary.
Note that lentils expand during cooking. Fifty grams of dry lentils will yield approximately one hundred grams of cooked lentils after cooking. Use a large pot with at least three times as much water as lentils and cook them for about fifty minutes until tender.

Applications in the kitchen

Thanks to their mild and slightly spicy flavor, green lentils are particularly versatile. They pair excellently with poultry dishes, pasta, or salads and are ideal for Indian and Mexican cuisine. They also shine in vegetarian and vegan meals.

Storage

Green lentils have a long shelf life. Store them in a well-sealed jar or bag in a dry, cool, and dark place. This way, they will remain good for up to a year and retain their flavor and nutritional value.
