What are yellow split peas?
Yellow split peas are hulled yellow peas that split into two halves once the skin is removed. This results in a soft texture and a much shorter cooking time than whole peas. Despite the absence of the skin, they retain their rich flavour and nutritional value.
Preparation
Because split peas no longer have their skin, they become wonderfully soft and are ideal for soups and purees.

Soak the split peas in plenty of water for 6 to 8 hours before cooking.

Bring them to a boil and simmer gently for 45 to 60 minutes.
After that, they are ready to be incorporated into your favourite dish, such as a traditional winter pea soup with a slightly sweet flavour.
Storage
Dried yellow split peas have a long shelf life. Store them in a well-sealed jar or bag in a cool, dry, and dark place. This way, they will remain good for up to a year and maintain their quality.
